We were talking about longevity, a word that keeps coming up when the desired storylines for The L Word are being discussed on social media. Longevity in lesbian relationships specifically, because representation matters, and as yet there are far too few (if any) long lasting lesbian relationships portrayed in TV-shows.

The holy grail

When two people have put in so much time and effort, so much hardship, so much personal growth and mutual respect and understanding, and they still haven’t been able to make their relationship work in an enduring way, should we really want to force them, pressuring our image of what is right and wrong onto them? Is one specific relationship, with one specific person, the holy grail just because we want or need it to be?

Whatever it is that makes them splash off our screens, there is an undeniable understanding between them. They know each other’s core, they realize the gem in it and how it requires protection and shelter.
